Manifesto

Bulgarcamo works from Bulgarian and German military surplus, from the Cold War to the years that followed — tarpaulins, canvas bags, sometimes uniforms — sourced in Bulgaria. Each piece is cut from the original textile and sewn in Sofia. When the material runs out, the piece leaves the catalogue.

About

Bulgarcamo works from Bulgarian and German military surplus, from the Cold War to the years that followed — tarpaulins, canvas bags, sometimes uniforms — sourced in Bulgaria. The patterns are not chosen for their aesthetic but for their trace: existing materials, dated, identifiable, irreproducible.

Sofia — tramway sur le pont, mont Vitosha en arrière-plan
София

The current release works with three of them — Bulgarian DPM and Splinter, German Flecktarn. Each piece is cut from the original textile and sewn in Sofia, by a neighbourhood seamstress.

Quantity depends on what the surplus allows — a few pieces each season, sometimes a single example. When the material runs out, the piece leaves the catalogue and stays there, marked as withdrawn.

What was an object of war becomes a civilian piece, without making a manifesto of the gesture. There is nothing to imitate, nothing to print, nothing to reproduce. There is a material that already exists, dated and identifiable, and a hand that takes from it to make something else.
